About us

Firm Sense is a coaching, consulting and training company serving the professional services sector, particularly lawyers and law firms.  We are based in the UK.  For the purposes of EU data protection legislation, Firm Sense Limited is the controller of personal information submitted by users of this website ("Users") and may be contacted via Sally Dyson by email at sallydyson@firmsense.co.uk or by post at 69 Priory Road, London NW6 3NH.  

How we collect personal information

We may collect personal information from Users in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to, when Users visit our website, register on the website, place an order, subscribe to a newsletter, respond to a survey, fill out a form or in connection with other activities, services, features or resources we make available on our website. Users may visit our website anonymously. We will collect personal identification information from Users only if they voluntarily submit such information to us. Users can always refuse to supply personal identification information but that may prevent them from engaging in certain website related activities.

Our reasons for using your personal information

We may process your personal information in the following circumstances:

  • You may have given us consent to use your personal information for particular purposes such as: inviting you to participate in research or to attend events; sharing news and thought leadership; offering and providing coaching, consulting and training services; and collaborating on projects.

  • Operating suppressors to exclude you from direct markting if you unsubscribe. 

Information that is gathered from Users

In common with other websites, log files are stored on the web server saving details such as a User's IP address, browser type, referring page and time of visit. This information is not used to track individuals.

Additionally, we may collect and store information about you when you are in contact with or use Firm Sense.  We may use the information to fulfil your requests, provide functionality, improve quality, personalise your experience, track usage, display relevant advertising, market Firm Sense , provide customer support, send messages to you, secure or back-up our systems, enable disaster recovery, comply with legal obligations and pursue our legitimate business interests as decribed above.

  • We may share generic aggregated demographic information not linked to any personal information regarding Users with our business partners, trusted affiliates and advertisers for the purposes outlined above.

We may share your information with these third parties in so far as it is necessary for them to perform their function.

Firm Sense is a UK -based company.  Your personal information will usually be stored in the UK.  There may be occasions when we need to transfer, process or store your personal information outside the UK or European Union in order to provide services that you have requested, particularly if you are based outside the European Union, or if we engage with third party suppliers whose data servers are located outside the European Union.  Any such third parties that we work with have confirmed that they either comply with the EU-US Privacy Shield Framework or that they have adopted Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission. 

How we protect your information

  • We adopt appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of your personal information.
  • Our website operates on a secure Linux server which is updated on a daily basis with any operating system updates or security patches that need applying.
  • Although we take reasonable measures to protect your personal information we cannot guarantee its security.

How long we keep your information

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to meet our legitimate business interests.  We will respect and give effect to any request from you to unsubscribe from our email service but may maintain information about you for the purposes authorised under this privacy policy unless prohibited by law.

We may publish blogs on our website.  Any information you include in a comment on our blog may be read, collected and used by anyone.  Our website may also include social media features such as "follow us" buttons. These features may collect information about your IP address and which page you are visiting on our website and they may set a cookie to make such features function properly.  We also maintain  presence on social media platforms such as Twitter and LinkedIn.  Any information you submit to us via a social media platform is done at your own risk and without any expectation of privacy.  We cannot control the actions of these platforms or their users and your interactions with these platforms are governed by their terms and policies.

Users may find advertising or other content on our website that links to the websites and services of our partners, suppliers, advertisers, sponsors, licensors and other third parties. We do not control the content or links that appear on these websites and are not responsible for the practices employed by websites linked to or from our website. We encourage Users to check this page regularly for any changes and to stay informed about how we are helping to protect the personal information we collect. Specific Privacy Policy for NRN members

About us

Firm Sense is a coaching, consulting and training company serving the professional services sector, particularly lawyers and law firms.  We are based in the UK.  For the purposes of EU data protection legislation, Firm Sense Limited is the controller of personal information submitted by subscribers to the NRN deep listening special interest group (“Subscribers”) and may be contacted via Sally Dyson by email at sallydyson@firmsense.co.uk or by post at 69 Priory Road, London NW6 3NH.  

The NRN Deep Listening Special Interest Group (“NRN SIG”) is a forum enabling members of the Nextlaw Referral Network (“Network”) who are interested in client listening to receive from Firm Sense:

  • Client listening know-how;
  • Invitations to participate in research, discussions, webinars and events to shape a new approach to client listening ; and
  • Offers of client listening, coaching, consulting and training services tailored for members of the Network. 

Network members are recommended to sign-up for the dedicated NRN SIG using the Mail Chimp form rather than by using the general sign-up form on the Firm Sense website.

How we collect personal information from Subscribers

Subscribers may voluntarily provide Firm Sense with a variety of personal information when they engage in any of the following actions:

Subscriber sign-up forms:  Subscribers to our email service complete a Mail Chimp sign-up form or ask to be added to the mailing list manually so as to receive know-how, invitations and offers as outlined above.  Subscribers voluntarily submit their email address, name, postal address and telephone number.  

Correspondence: Subscribers may choose to engage directly with Firm Sense by email, letter, phone or in person.

Activities: Subscribers may choose to participate in research, discussions, training and events.

Transactions: Subscribers may engage Firm Sense to perform services on their behalf.

Website: We may also collect data from visitors to our website. Visitors to our website do not have to be Subscribers but this privacy policy is designed for Subscribers who may also visit the Firm Sense website and are therefore referred to as Subscribers throughout.  Examples of ways in which Firm Sense may collect data include, but are not limited to, when Subscribers visit our website, register on the website, place an order, subscribe to a newsletter, respond to a survey, fill out a form or in connection with other activities, services, features or resources we make available on our website. Sharing Subscriber personal information

We do not sell, trade, or rent personal identification information to others.  We may share Subscriber personal information in the following ways:

  • We may share generic aggregated demographic information not linked to any personal information regarding Subscribers with our business partners, trusted affiliates and advertisers for the legitimate business purposes outlined above.
  • We may use third party service providers, who maintain appropriate information security standards to help us operate our business and the website or administer activities on our behalf, such as sending out newsletters or surveys. We may share Subscriber information with these third parties in so far as it is necessary for them to perform their function.  In particular, Firm Sense uses Mail Chimp as our marketing platform and Survey Monkey to administer questionnaires.  Both organisations take privacy very seriously and process data in accordance with industry best practices and legal requirements as set out in their privacy policies which can be found on their websites.
  • With Subscriber permission, we may contact others inside or outside the Subscriber’s organisation as required to provide services requested by Subscriber. 
  • We may work with third party service providers including Nextlaw In-House Solutions to provide consultancy services to Subscribers at their request.  Such engagements would be subject to separate terms and conditions.
  • We may, from time to time, report to Nextlaw Global Referral Network LLC (“LLC”) or its successors or assigns on the number and identity of Subscribers; the activities of the group; the results of research projects and discussions within the group; and the nature and value of any transactions that Subscribers ultimately enter into with Firm Sense.   LLC may share this information with other members of Dentons to the extent permitted under the terms of the LLC privacy policy and membership agreement.  Firm Sense will not share any personally identifiable details of Subscribers’ clients with LLC or Dentons without express permission to do so.
  • There may be occasions when we need to provide Subscriber personal information to law enforcement bodies and regulators.
